[ Advocacy ]

Stronger laws.
Greater access.
Informed choices.

Breastoration works to ensure that every patient has access to clear information, meaningful choices, and medically necessary breast reconstruction—regardless of financial or practical barriers.

[ Education Is Part of Advocacy ]

Information supports informed decisions.

Meaningful patient choice begins with accurate, accessible information. Breastoration encourages patients to learn about breast reconstruction, ask questions, and participate in shared decision-making with their healthcare team.

Breastoration is provider-neutral and does not recommend physicians, hospitals, or reconstructive procedures. Medical decisions belong solely to patients in consultation with their healthcare professionals.

Review education information about treatment and reconstruction options, then discuss your questions and personal goals with your healthcare professionals.

[ ADVOCACY IN ACTION ]

Bringing patient needs to the conversation

Breastoration works with legislators, healthcare professionals, and community advocates to raise awareness of the barriers reconstruction patients face and support policies that protect informed choice and expand access to care.

The Breast Reconstruction Access Initiative for Louisiana (BRAIL) builds upon more than a decade of patient assistance, education, advocacy, collaboration, and longitudinal data.

Working with healthcare professionals, hospitals, medical schools, policymakers, and community partners, BRAIL will identify barriers to breast reconstruction, strengthen patient education, support evidence-informed public policy, and improve access to medically necessary breast reconstruction throughout Louisiana.

The goal is straightforward: To ensure that every patient has the information, support, and opportunity to make an informed decision—and the practical ability to complete that choice.

Breastoration welcomes collaboration with healthcare professionals, educational institutions, professional organizations, foundations, policymakers, and community partners who share this vision.

[ A Louisiana Mission With National Influence ]

Advocacy that moves awareness forward

Breastoration’s early advocacy helped draw national attention to New Orleans and expand the conversation around breast reconstruction education, access, and informed choice. In 2012, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons launched its national Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day USA in New Orleans.

New Orleans hosted the launch of the national BRA Day USA movement in 2012, helping elevate breast reconstruction education and patient choice.

[ ADVOCACY AT THE CAPITOL ]

Giving patient choice a voice in the Louisiana Legislature.

Breastoration works alongside legislators, healthcare professionals, and patient advocates to support policies that strengthen patient education, physician counseling, and informed decision-making. These images capture that advocacy in action before Louisiana legislative committees.

[ A MODEL FOR PATIENT-CENTERED LEGISLATION ]

Louisiana’s legislative framework has received national recognition.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has cited Louisiana’s legislative framework as a model for other states to consider. Its emphasis on patient education, physician counseling, and informed decision-making demonstrates how patient-centered legislation can help protect meaningful access to medically necessary breast reconstruction.
